I am planning to carry out two projects for this collaborating course. To be precise, as I am writing this, both projects are already in progress.
The first project is a collaboration with a student majoring in Fine Art at Goldsmiths. We are creating a dance film incorporating acting, based on the theme of pressure, and I am responsible for composing the music for it. In this process, I expect to learn a lot, as it can be challenging to express the atmosphere someone envisions—especially when that person is not familiar with music. Through this, I hope to improve my ability to translate abstract ideas into sound.
The second project is with a student from UCL’s Slade School of Fine Art. We decided to work on a project related to Itō Hirobumi, who was once a student at UCL. Itō Hirobumi was a key figure in Japanese governance from the late 1800s to the early 1900s and played a significant role in the colonization of Korea. As a result, perceptions of him differ starkly between Korea and Japan. We plan to create a video piece or an installation exploring this divergence in perspectives.
Through this project, I anticipate incorporating techniques I have previously learned, such as live recording and vocoding. Since the project will be conducted in an interview format, my prior experience with audio paper interviews will be particularly useful.
